In the early twentieth century, New York City was home to a booming architecture scene. Many of the city's buildings, including the iconic Flatiron Building, were designed in this period.

New York City's architecture has been a source of inspiration for many artists, filmmakers, and architects. One film that was influenced by the city's skyline was Metropolis, a 1927 German expressionist science fiction film.

The film's cinematographer, Karl Freund, used the city's skyline as a reference when creating the sets for the film. In recent years, there has been a resurgence of interest in Metropolis. This interest has also led to the creation of a series of NFTs (non-fungible tokens) by SurR.Ai in August 2022.

The "Metropolis" NFT series, which are digital collectibles, feature constructivist avant-garde architecture and futuristic urban buildings. They are currently available for purchase on the blockchain-based marketplace OpenSea.

While the film is set in the future, the themes it explores are still relevant today. The rise of AI and the growing dependence on technology are issues that we are grappling with today. By creating the NFT series, SurR.Ai is bringing these issues to the forefront and sparking a conversation about our future.

For this series, we also took the 1921 sketch "Collectivist House" by Nikolai Ladovsky and combined it with a contemporary image of a city skyline.
